There’s a couple different flavors of leadership programs here. The one I was in was more specifically focused on corporate. So you can also have a leadership program where you’ll be in the warehouses and be on the operational side. It’s an exciting opportunity, because you can guide your own curiosity through the business, as opposed to going straight into a roll. You can come in and say “hey, I want to learn strategy” and work in a strategy, or say “hey, I want to learn marketing” and be in a marketing group. With the program, I was able to work in the finance department doing merges and acquisitions during a very busy time for the company. It was a phenomenal experience, and funny enough, at the end of it I realized I liked finance more than I expected, and I’m much better at it than I thought I would be. The leadership development program I was in, the business analyst program, was fantastic because I was just coming out of college and I was a business major. I knew I wanted to do business, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do within business. You can do anything from finance to operations to marketing to sales, and really everything in-between. There’s so much opportunity to come and get to narrow-down your focus areas and figure out what you like, and do that while learning a ton and meeting a lot of people who help facilitate those transitions into whatever departments you like. And meeting with people and expanding your networking pool, helping you grow that leadership potential.
