C&S is a growing company primarily because our owner is committed to creating the premier grocery supply chain in the world. The culture of C&S is a can-do culture. This is a team who can rally together and figure out a problem and go after it and fix it in a speed that is remarkable. There is constant change, constant challenge, and it’s just a great place to be if you’re a motivated individual who wants to make an impact on the business. It’s rare that you have companies that really have the culture of a smaller family company but the opportunity and the influence of a large company. Working at C&S is great because of the comradery. There’s a lot of team building here, no matter what background you come from. You have to be a self-starter, you have to be friendly, because we’re definitely a team here. What makes C&S a great place to work is a combination of things: it’s great people, and it’s the great causes that the company supports. When you put those things together, amazing things can happen. Having a strategy that is a blueprint for success on how we’re going to build on our legacy and grow into the future, creates all kind of career opportunities. That type of growth is what supports not only the company but growth for individuals as well. The possibilities are really endless here. Every conference I go to everyone’s up there saying “this is the best time in supply chain, we’ve never seen this many changes.” And I think we’re right up there, we’re at the forefront, we’re at the cutting edge making a lot of interesting initiatives. From a career standpoint, C&S is very much a place where you can make your own career. It’s not a place where you’re going to walk in and someone’s going to hand you a road map and all you have to is watch along the path. You have to craft your own plan. I think I’m a great example of that – I’ve had eleven different titles in ten-and-a-half years, and very few of those positions existed before I took them. The ability to come in and work hard and to work with a group of highly talented, motivated people who at the end of the day impact the business, is really invigorating. The excitement and the energy, and the spirit here when you walk around – when you put this team together, they will walk through walls, move mountains. It’s just amazing. Your job, whether you’re working in the warehouse, or you’re working in finance, or if you’re working in information technology, or in human resources, you work all adds up and has meaning. We’re looking for people who can bring that spirit, that engagement, and also a diverse set of experiences and opinions and ways of thinking to the business. We very much believe that having people from different backgrounds with different approaches helps us ultimately get to a better business outcome.
